ENOUGH ABOUT ME, LET'S TALK ABOUT ME...
PLEASE READ THE ABOVE! SERIOUSLY...
So I think we all share too much - why in the hell am I writing more about me? In a word: Therapy. Blogging is cheaper than paying for it - and let's face it, I have no job and paying for something as costly as therapy could take its toll! HA! Then there is the fact that I self-analyze about once about every 15 minutes or so... I know me pretty well and writing is a way for me to let it out and share with others who may or may not have an opinion on the matters that I am thinking on (or over-thinking).
Seriously though. Here are some things that I personally hate about the Social Networks:
Before Social Networks we had actual friends. Friends that we called, wrote letters to, sent cards to on birthdays (etc.), and got together with on occasion. Since FaceBook and Twitter? Not so much... WTF?
On my Birthday this past November 23 (gift cards are happily accepted) I received exactly one "Happy Birthday" phone call - from my youngest niece in Tennessee. People posted "Happy Birthday" on FaceBook, but I feel that is cheap - not for the 200 people that have not actually met me face-to-face or seen and spoken to me in about 20 years or so, but for my actual friends and family. I did not look at FaceBook on that day and when I finally got around to it, did not respond to even one "Happy Birthday".
I am so overly exhausted by the rudeness in the world around me. The Social networks have allowed each and every one of us to become lazy, inconsiderate assholes who do not deserve the consideration of others when we need it the most. AND TEXT MESSAGES! GRRR! Text messaging is fine for grocery lists and a "hey, how are ya" every now and again, but when did it become too much of an effort to actually make a phone call to speak to another human being? I enjoy hearing someone's voice, making them laugh, and knowing that I am not actually as alone as I may feel at times to be; a lot can be translated via voice that is hugely lacking via keyboard strokes. Voice inflection for example. I can hear it in my big brother's voice when he is down or tired or perhaps in ill. I can hear when something is unsaid (silences can really be louder than noise) as much as when idle words are exchanged. I do not want to forget the sound of a loved ones voice when they "move on". It happens - believe me. The memory of the voice seems to go first...
More on that later.
